The Serie A star who dreams of playing for Arsenal

Becoming a world famous footballer and a three-time Serie A winner by the age of 22 would surely be a dream come true for anyone who aspires to play the beautiful game.

However, Paul Pogba’s thoughts weren’t occupied by Italian football when he was growing up and it was the Premier League and La Liga that were on his mind.

The French midfielder’s big brother Florentin has revealed who the Juventus star dreamed of playing for when he was younger and it’s good news for Arsenal fans.

According to the Metro, the older Pogba said: “Paul is a little crazy, obviously in the best sense.

“His dreams? When he was little, the clubs that made the dream were Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and Arsenal.”

Obviously, the 22-year-old has had the chance to make playing for Man Utd a reality, but his time there was more of a nightmare.

Pogba only made seven appearances for the Red Devils and chose not to renew his contract due to a lack of first-team games.

To make matters worse, Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t even call on him when the team were in the midst of a midfield injury crisis and instead decided to tempt Paul Scholes out of retirement.

The Gunners have to be encouraged that they are held in the same esteem as Real Madrid and Barcelona by the Champions League runner up and they must act on this in the summer.

Arsene Wenger has only made two significant transfers this season, bringing in Petr Cech at the start of the summer before a January move for Mohamed Elneny.

Those deals cost the north Londoners a combined £17.4m and this lack of investment is now starting to hurt them, with Wenger’s side now in third behind rivals Tottenham Hotspur in second and five points off league-leaders Leicester City.

Bringing in Pogba would prove that Arsenal had ambition and, given the player’s interest in a move to the Emirates, they would be foolish not to attempt a deal for the Frenchman.
