Sunderland could land new winger and a 16/1 bet on deadline day

It’s a transfer window tradition. As the final hour approaches, a club that have spent all day doing nothing suddenly launches a late bid to bring in a new face.

This year Sunderland are that club and although their last-gasp pursuit of rarely-seen Aston Villa winger Charles N’Zogbia isn’t the most exciting of last-knockings action, a successful capture of the Frenchman could help to line Mackems’ pockets.

At the time of writing, Sunderland are priced up at a whopping 16/1 to sign the last Premier League player of the transfer window.

That price reflects just how dormant the Black Cats have been during deadline day, but could be made a mockery of if Sam Allardyce successfully lands his man.

On a day that has seen Steven Fletcher leave the Stadium of Light for Marseille, Sunderland have shown little impetus to announce any new additions to their squad. Suddenly, however, they seem set on landing N’Zogbia from Aston Villa.

The former Newcastle man is well and truly out of favour with Remi Garde and made the last of his two top flight appearances this season in November.

With the north east outfit locked in a relegation fight, bringing in a player that comes with so much obvious rust isn’t perhaps the wisest of moves, but if it helps fans win a 16/1 bet that fact may be overlooked.
