Spurs most likely Prem side to win Europa League, says poll

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is enjoying greater success in the Europa League this season

Tottenham Hotspur are a safer bet to win the Europa League than either Liverpool or Manchester United.

That is according to the latest poll by Ladbrokes, which asked Twitter followers to vote for the side with the best chance of winning ahead of tonight’s second leg ties.

Spurs earned a credible 1-1 draw away to Serie A high flyers Fiorentina last week and will hope to make home advantage count when La Viola arrive at White Hart Lane tonight.

It seems many people expect Mauricio Pochettino’s men to progress too, with the overwhelming majority of voters (53 per cent) saying Spurs have the best hope of all the English sides of going on to win the trophy.

Like Spurs, Liverpool also bagged a draw, holding Augsburg 0-0 in Germany last time out.  Again with home advantage the betting suggests Jurgen Klopp’s reds will go through but with just 29 per cent of the votes few believe the Anfield outfit can go all the way.

Finally, however, and perhaps most damning is the fact that just 18 per cent of those taking part in the poll believe Manchester United can lift the Europa League.

The Red Devils had arguably their darkest day under Louis van Gaal when going down 2-1 to Danish minnows FC Midtjylland last time out but are largely expected to turn things around at Old Trafford later tonight.

That lacklustre showing has seen any faith in the Red Devils evaporate, though, and most – if not all – of the bigger sides left in the competition will be licking their lips at the thought of facing United now.
