Southampton star Jordy Clasie issues Premier League warning

Southampton currently trail Manchester United by one point in sixth place in the Premier League but the south-coast side have not given up on a top four finish.

That is according to Dutch Saints star Jordy Clasie, who has issued a warning that he is approaching his best form just in time for the season’s run-in.

Despite trailing United by a single point the south coast club are a distant 16/1 to finish in the top four but those odds could soon tumble if Clasie delivers on his promise.

“I think the last few weeks is going much better than the first games that I played here for Southampton,” the former Feyenoord man told Southampton’s official YouTube channel

“I began with a bad injury and then I came in and it was difficult, because we lost some games and had some draws, but the last few weeks we’re doing much better, we have confidence and hopefully I can do it much better in the last 12 games.”

Southampton’s next league action comes on February 27 when Ronald Koeman’s side entertain Chelsea at St Mary’s.

The hosts go into that tie as marginal underdogs at 17/10, while the draw can be backed at 21/10 and a Chelsea win is priced at 13/8.

The betting suggests Manchester United are the only other side likely to oust one of the current top four but with the unpredictable nature of this season a run of wins for the Saints could see them deliver on the longer odds.

Clasie was linked with the likes of United and Liverpool before heading to St Mary’s and should the Saints march on over the coming weeks he could be shown to have made the right decision after all.
