Prepare for Man Utd Inter Milan summer raid

Published:

Two Inter Milan stars have revealed that Manchester United tried to sign them over the January transfer window, but turned down the approach.

Mauro Icardi, Inter’s 22-year-old captain, and full-back Yuto Nagatomo both could be United players at the moment, but nothing came of it.

Speaking to his club’s TV channel, the Japanese international explained his decision: “I like everything about Inter, I want to stay here and renew my contract.

“I turned down an offer from Manchester United, as my desire is to stay here. I have an excellent rapport with Roberto Mancini.

“I love Italy. I’ve been here for five years now and I feel at home.

“Hopefully, when I finish my career, I can stay in Italy.”

It’s nice to see this level of loyalty in football, but circumstances out of their control could see the pair departing the San Siro.

Inter are in hundreds of millions of pounds in debt and their current league standing means they miss out on Champions League football and this would be another financial hit.

The Nerazzuri are currently 5th in Serie A and their season has turned sour after a strong start.

A lack of European football and money may force them to sell their prize assets in the summer and the Red Devils should be alive to the possibility of bringing them in.

Icardi has ten league goals to his name so far in this campaign and is the type of forward who can make a chance out of anything.

Being handed the armband at such a young age highlights how highly-rated he is in the San Siro and he would be a welcome addition to the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Nagatomo is an experienced defender and would add some much needed depth to the depleted United full-back ranks.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
