Nathan Austin lands Ladbrokes League 2 Player of the Month award

East Fife striker Nathan Austin has been named the Ladbrokes League 2 Player of the Month for January.

The 21-year-old forward is currently back on-loan at the club having sealed a dream move to Falkirk during the January transfer window but insists he remains eager to finish off his brilliant campaign with East Fife.

Austin has bagged 16 goals for the Fifers this term and told Ladbrokes News that he’s eyeing a successful end to the season.

He said: “I’m absolutely chuffed to bits to win Player of the Month. I’ve never won it before so I’m delighted.

“I’m training with Falkirk at the moment, but it was important for me to go back to East Fife and finish what we’ve started this season.

“It was important for me to go back on loan, because I didn’t want to leave halfway through the season. Everyone was happy with it at the end of the day.

“We’ve had a really good month; four wins and a draw. But we know ourselves we need to maintain our consistency.

“We’re pushing Elgin every week, and we’re coming into the dressing room to find out how they’re getting on.

“But there will be a few teams round about us who will have their eyes on Elgin. We just need to show we can handle it.”

Austin also says that training with Falkirk could give him an extra edge in the season’s closing stages.

He added: “Hopefully next season I’ll be in and around the Falkirk team so you can learn a lot from boys there.

“Guys like Lee Miller have taken me to the side as well and given me some advice, and we do some drills at the end of training to work on my shooting and finishing.”

Sponsors Ladbrokes have Austin’s East Fife priced at 7/2 – just behind Elgin – to win League 2 this season, and with a striker like him in their ranks, that could represent a decent bet.
