Ladbrokes SPFL: Stunned Hibernian must bounce back

Published:

The midweek action allowed a number of teams to play their games in hand, but Hibernian failed to take their chance as Morton romped to a surprise 3-0 win at Easter Road. Now Alan Stubbs’ men must fight back.

The Edinburgh outfit head to Dumbarton in the Ladbrokes Championship, while Rangers welcome St Mirren to Ibrox.

The Ladbrokes League 1 leading pair of Dunfermline and Peterhead both have home ties to look forward to this weekend, while in Ladbrokes League 2 East Fife look to maintain their superb run at Queen’s Park.

Here’s your Ladbrokes SPFL weekend preview…

Ladbrokes Championship

Hibernian’s shock defeat at home to Morton in midweek has handed Rangers an eight point lead, and Mark Warburton’s men host St Mirren.

Saints haven’t conceded too many on the road, and coupled with Gers’ only netting once in each of their last four, St Mirren +2 on the handicap @ 29/20 is the bet here.

Hibs head to Dumbarton looking to rebuild from their Morton horror show, and with the Sons owning the worst defensive home record in the league, Alan Stubbs’ men should be bouncing back at 7/20.

Falkirk have conceded just six times at home, and coupled with Queen of the South’s failing to score in three of their last four away games, Peter Houston’s men to win to nil looks good at 21/10.

Fourth meets fifth as Raith host Morton, but while Rovers have won just one of their last seven at Stark’s Park, Morton are unbeaten in five on the road including that famous win at Easter Road, and backing Jim Duffy’s boys on the Draw No Bet at 21/20 looks the goer.

Finally Alloa held Rangers to a 1-1 draw in their last home contest, so the 17/10 on them to finally get first home win of the season against Livingston could be fruitful.

Ladbrokes League 1

Having won just once at home in six games since late-October, Airdrie aren’t in great form, but neither are visitors Ayr with United winning only three of their last nine.

Both teams have scored in four of Airdrie’s last six and six of Ayr’s previous seven, so the 11/20 on both teams netting again looks assured.

Stranraer are unbeaten in their last five away games in a run which has seen them lose once in nine, and the Blues are 11/20 on the +2 handicap away at leaders Dunfermline.

Forfar finally ended their winless streak by beating Cowdenbeath on Wednesday, and they now host an Albion side with just eight away goals this term. The Loons are 17/20 on the Draw No Bet.

Brechin have scored in 11 of their last 14, but a leaky defence could be in trouble with Peterhead having won 10 and drawn two of their last 12 games. The Blue Toon to win and both teams to score is 7/4.

Cowdenbeath have lost six of their seven fixtures in 2016 and they head to a Stenhousemuir side who have won just two of their last 10 home games. A draw is 11/4.

Ladbrokes League 2

Having lost four on the spin across Christmas and New Year, Annan have bounced back of late but their home games have seen the opposition net regularly.

Both teams have scored in Annan’s last six at Galabank, totalling 15 for opponents and 14 for the hosts, so Annan and Stirling to score at 11/20 or over 3.5 goals at 29/20 could tempt.

Arbroath have endured a winless four-game February while Barry Ferguson’s Clyde are looking for a third straight win. Both sides have kept things pretty tight of late however and under 2.5 goals is over evens at 23/20.

Montrose have won just once away from Links Park this term, but have avoided defeat in seven of their last eight contests, while Berwick have lost four in that spell.

Rangers have been tough to beat at Shielfield Park however, and a draw is 14/5.

Elgin are unbeaten at home this term, while East Stirling have won only once on the road. The league leaders are 17/20 on the -1 handicap.

Queen’s Park have lost just two of their last 13, but East Fife have won six and drawn one of their last seven. The Fifers won at Hampden in August however and are 8/5 to do so again.
