Ladbrokes SPFL: Rangers debutant saves the day as leaders leave it late

It was a trying weekend in the Ladbrokes SPFL, as Storm Gertrude ensured no more than three matches could take place in any division come Saturday afternoon.
Raith’s game at home to Queen of the South was called off, as were the fixtures at Ayr and Cowdenbeath in League 1, and Berwick and Stirling in League 2.
Nevertheless some matches did go ahead, with some interesting results occurring up and down the leagues.
Here’s your somewhat depleted weekend round-up…
Ladbrokes Championship
With Hibernian in Scottish League Cup semi-final action, Rangers had the chance to go eight points clear at the top of the table.
They were made to sweat against third-place Falkirk however, and Mark Warburton’s men left it late.
Gers fans breathed a huge sigh of relief then when debutant Billy King popped up in stoppage time to score the game’s only goal, ending a spirited Falkirk performance.
Elsewhere Dumbarton picked up a first win in five games at home to Livingston, while St Mirren consigned Alloa to another loss with a 3-1 victory in Paisley.
Ladbrokes League 1
With Dunfermline suffering a surprise loss at home to Airdrie on Friday night and Ayr’s game called off, Peterhead took the chance to close in on the leading pair.
Jim McNally’s men had to do it the hard way though after a Scott McBride penalty put Albion 1-0 up after just two minutes at Balmoor.
Jamie Redman quickly levelled however, before the Blue Toon really stepped it up in the second half.
Four goals in 15 minutes stunned Rovers as Peterhead ran out 5-1 victors, extending their unbeaten run to 11 matches.
The only other game to survive in the third tier was Stranraer at home to Brechin where the hosts claimed a fourth league win in five games in a 2-0 success.
Ladbrokes League 2
The ultra-competitive life of League 2 continued this weekend as leaders Elgin crashed 4-2 at former table-toppers Annan.
East Fife made sure the gap at the top dwindled from five points to two as they eased to a 2-0 win at home to Barry Ferguson’s Clyde.
The final game to escape the weather came at East Stirling but the basement club were hapless to stop Arbroath claiming a five victory in six matches in a 3-0 win.
