Ladbrokes League 2: Elgin look for return to winning ways

There appears to be a theme in Ladbrokes League 2 this season that whoever tops the table will suddenly lose form, and the current victims of the curse are Elgin.

The league leaders have failed to win their last two games and two of the three sides chasing City have games in hand.

Elgin host Clyde this weekend, while second-placed East Fife welcome Arbroath and Queen’s Park see East Stirlingshire visit Hampden Park.

Annan Athletic v Montrose

Montrose have lost eight of their 11 away games this term and their latest efforts on the road saw them downed 7-0 on Tuesday night by Stirling Albion.

Annan ended a four-game losing streak last time out with a 4-2 win over Elgin, and with Montrose’ woeful away record, Athletic should be eyeing three points once again.

East Fife v Arbroath

Sixth on Christmas Day, East Fife have raced into title contention with five wins and a draw in seven games since Boxing Day.

Arbroath claimed a 1-0 win on their last visit to Bayview Stadium, and having matched the Fifer’s results in the last seven, a tight match is in the offing.

The hosts have won their last two home games to nil, and the same goes to Arbroath’s last three on the road.

Best Bet: Draw @ 29/10

Elgin v Clyde

Three wins in November saw Clyde’s Barry Ferguson that Manager of the Month, but his side have won just twice since then, slipping from second to seventh.

They’re up against it with table-topping Elgin unbeaten at home this season, and though they’ve failed to win their last two games, both were away from Borough Briggs.

The hosts have won eight of their ten home ties, and haven’t conceded in front of their own fans since mid-November.

Best Bet: Elgin to win to nil @ 21/10

Queen’s Park v East Stirling

Queen’s Park may have drawn their last three games, but they’ll have fond memories of East Stirling visiting Hampden having won 5-1 in September.

The bottom side have conceded 27 times in their last 10 games, and 29 in their 10 away contests this term.

Craig Tully’s men have scored in each of their last nine away ties, but Queens can counter that with a defence that boasts seven clean sheets in its last nine fixtures.

Best Bet: Queen’s Park to win -1 @ Evens

Stirling Albion v Berwick

A 7-0 thrashing of Montrose on Tuesday evening was Stirling’s first victory since Christmas but they’ve now lost just three of their last 14.

Visitors Berwick have lost eight of their last 11, including a 2-1 loss to Stirling at Forthbank in November.

Just three clean sheets this term also doesn’t bode well for the Borderers this weekend.
