Ladbrokes League 1: Stuttering Pars handing pursuers the initiative

While they remain 1/16 shots to claim the Ladbrokes League 1 title, Dunfermline’s position atop the table is looking far less secure than it did a few weeks ago.

A few dropped points coupled with the form of the likes of Peterhead means Alan Johnston’s men could have just seven points between themselves and third by Saturday evening.

They obviously still hold the advantage, but how will the table look after this weekend’s fixtures?

Aidrieonians v Cowdenbeath

The Diamonds shocked league leaders Dunfermline with a 1-0 victory last time out, but their home form has been far from enthralling, with no league wins in front of their own fans since October 17.

While Cowdenbeath have lost their last three in all competitions, a pinch of salt must be taking with two of those fixtures coming against the aforementioned Pars and Rangers.

There is probably less between these two sides than the league positions let on, and a share of the spoils looks good value.

Best bet: Draw @ 3/1

Albion Rovers v Brechin City

Oh what either of these sides would do to experience the sweet taste of success again, with neither taking three points in the league since December 19.

The hosts are amidst a four game losing streak and are on the verge of being dragged into a relegation scrap if they are not careful.

City, on the other hand, while bottom aren’t rolling over just yet, losing just two of their last four and could be hard to beat once again.

Best bet: Brechin +1 @ 23/20

Ayr United v Peterhead

These two have seen the gap close to the league leaders on a weekly basis and the race for the title starts to look a little more interesting.

Peterhead could go second with their eighth win in 10 games, with their goal-scoring prowess being well demonstrated of late scoring 21 goals in their last six.

Ayr won last time out at Albion Rovers and with five of their last six games featuring over 2.5 goals, there could be plenty of action in this one.  Expect the action to come late though with three or more goals scored in five of Peterhead’s last six fixtures.

Best bet: Highest scoring half – Second @ 20/21

Forfar Athletic v Stranraer

It’s been a miserable second third of the season for Forfar, with nine defeats and five draws making up their last 14 fixtures in the league.

They could find themselves bringing up the rear in the table if results go against them this weekend and face a tricky visit of Stranraer.

The Blues have won five of their last six games and continue to climb the table, making them look excellent value to take all three points at odds-against.

Best bet: Stranraer @ 6/5

Stenhousemuir v Dunfermline

How things change for Dunfermline. After looking like they would run away with the title, they have began to stutter of late.

The goals of Moffatt and El Bakhtaoui have dried up, with the Pars failing to find the back of the net in their last three games in all competitions.

Their title lead is getting cut all the time, but don’t expect them to play out a thriller to resurrect that at Ochilview. Stenhousemuir have netted just four in their last six, so it could be that this one is a slow burner.

Best bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 3/2
