Ladbrokes Challenge Cup: Wath Brow welcome French opposition

| 27.02.2016

The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup third round takes place this weekend with a number of tasty ties to look forward to.

There are some derbies to enjoy with York City Knights hosting York Acorn and Rochdale Mayfield welcoming Rochdale Hornets but arguably the standout out tie of the round sees French outfit Toulouse Olympique travel to England to take on Wath Brow Hornets.

As sponsors we’ll be helping the Hornets roll out the red carpet for their continental visitors after making the tie the Ladbrokes Feature Match for the round.

This means that the Cleator club will be given the glamour treatment, with Super League legends, cheerleaders and the £5k Half-Time Crossbar Challenge all rolling into town.

Hornets boss Ian Rooney remembers travelling to France to take on Toulouse over a decade ago and is relishing the chance to return the favour.

“We travelled to play in Toulouse 11 years ago so we’re really looking forward to welcoming them to Cleator Moor next weekend,” he told the News & Star.

“These games will be really tough. We know we’re not going to win the iPro Cup or the Challenge Cup but we’ve decided to play these games because we’re not entering the Conference Cup.

“It’ll be a great day for the club and our supporters and it’ll be a real talking point for us in the future being the first amateur side to host Toulouse in this competition.”
