How Twitter reacted to Arsenal’s last-gasp win over Leicester
Arsenal and Leicester played out an entertaining, end-to-end title tussle at the Emirates on Valentine’s Day, that saw the Gunners grab a late, late winner.
Full of action and talking points, the result means Arsene Wenger’s men cut Leicester’s lead at the top of the table to two points, with fellow silverware foes Manchester City and Tottenham due to play later in the day.
With so much to discuss, Twitter was ablaze with reactions to all the main talking points during the 90 minutes. Here are some of the best of them:
Piers Morgan opened the day with a pun
Never approved of Fox-hunting.
Until now. Hound them into oblivion lads. #AFCvLCFC

But it was Leicester fans that celebrated first, when Jamie Vardy won a penalty from Nacho Monreal
6 – Jamie Vardy has won more penalties in the Premier League this season alone (6) than all of the other 19 Premier League teams. Spot.

The decision split social media, but Miguel Delaney summed it up nicely
Vardy undeniably “manufactures” the moment somewhat but it’s lazy defending and a justifiable penalty.

The England man duly stepped up and thumped it home

Of course, referee Martin Atkinson came in to the spotlight
How on earth is Martin Atkinson ever a referee?!

Is Martin Atkinson blind?

Martin Atkinson, Leicester’s 12th man

Although he declined awarding a second spot kick when Monreal appeared to foul Riyad Mahrez, who was giving the full back a torrid afternoon

In the second half, Atkinson was again in the action, sending off Leicester right back Danny Simpson for a second booking. There were some Valentine’s Day jokes

And more accusations about Atkinson
Not able to watch this game today but I do know Martin Atkinson’s middle name is ‘level it up’.

From then on it was one-way Arsenal traffic, as Leicester looked to hold on to their lead
We have 11 men and they have 10…. It feels like the other way around #AFCvLCFC

Vardy was reduced to little more than a vine by Petr Cech

When Theo Walcott equalised in the 70th minute, it was with Arsenal’s first shot on target

Olivier Giroud thought he’d put Arsenal in front, Kasper Schemeichel brillianty denied him

But eventually, the Gunners sealed victory through Danny Welbeck, making his first appearance since April
