Felipe Anderson to Man United a done deal, says Lazio chief

Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson will definitely be moving to Manchester United this summer.

That is according to Lazio president Claudio Lotito, who claims a deal taking the Selecao star to Old Trafford has already been signed.

In an interview with Calciomercato the Lazio chief said: Felipe Anderson will move to Manchester United next season for €60m (£48m).

“I bought Felipe Anderson for €8m and I’ve already sold him on for €60m.”

However, while United did little to play down speculation linking them with a move for the 22-year-old during the January transfer window the club have poured cold water on this latest link, claiming Lotito’s comments are wide of the mark.

This stance is shared by Lazio sporting director Igli Tare, who added that while United made a €50m bid last summer that offer was rebuffed and “nothing has changed” in the interim.

Quite why Lotito would falsely claim to have sold his side’s star asset is unclear so for the meantime United fans will have to make do with a state of limbo as to whether the former Santos star will pull on the famous red jersey next year.

One thing is for sure, however, and that is that United would love to be able to call on the pacy midfielder this week as the Red Devils look to overcome a 2-1 Europa League deficit against Danish minnows FC Midtjylland.

The defeat was described as the lowest point in Louis van Gaal’s reign as United boss but after the 3-0 FA Cup win over Shrewsbury talk of the Dutchman’s exit has died down.

United can be backed at 2/9 to beat the Danes on Thursday and earn Van Gaal a further stay of execution. Lose though and it’s more than likely that Felipe will be playing under someone other than the Dutchman even if he does arrive at Old Trafford when the window reopens.
