Elgin boss Jim Weir named Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month

Elgin City supremo Jim Weir has been named the Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month for January.

The Highland outfit won three of their four games last month to go top of the table with a defeat to Annan Athletic the only blot on their copybook.

And Weir believes the achievement of his players is even more impressive considering the impact bad weather over December and January had on his side’s pre-match preparations.

Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes News, he said: “I’m delighted for the club and the players.

“We didn’t have the easiest preparations over the winter months with where we train and places closed.

“We had to rely on a lot of other people helping us out here and there, but the players trained well and got their rewards for it.

“January was a good month, albeit we lost the last game with Annan, and it was probably the first time that I had won three in the league.

“It was good for us and helped put the pressure on the teams below us that their games in hand become more important.

“There’s a long way to go, but I’m just delighted that we’re still top of the league.”

Although delighted at scooping January’s award, Weir has his sights set on the bigger prize come May.

Elgin lead East Fife by two points with a game in hand and according to the gaffer promotion to League 1 is very much the team’s target.

Weir added: “The award you want is the one at the beginning of May – that’s the main one.

“It’s always nice that you get some recognition during the season.

“I’d say this is more for the players and the club because it’s not an easy club to be successful with in terms of geography.

“But we try our best, give it everything and at the minute all the hard work at the club is paying off.”

David Macdonald of Ladbrokes said: “Elgin have their sights on being crowned League 2 champions, and Jim believes if his boys can continue working hard and show the right attitude then they will be heading up come May.”

Next up for Elgin is a home game against Clyde this Saturday with the Borough Briggs side priced at 2/3 to claim another valuable victory.
