Double over Man City will show Spurs’ title credentials

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is enjoying greater success in the Europa League this season

Tottenham Hotspur will meet Manchester City in the last game of what will be an action-packed Sunday of football.

Spurs won when the two sides met earlier in the season at White Hart Lane and winning again would bring about a reversal in fortunes that would signal their title credentials.

The Citizens know all too well what doing the double over a similarly big side can do, with their two Premier League trophies coming in seasons where they bested Tottenham.

In the 2013/14 campaign, Manuel Pellegrini’s men beat Spurs twice in convincing fashion on their way to picking up the title.

Firstly, Sergio Aguero struck twice to help his side get a 6-0 win at the Etihad, while he managed one as City emerged with a 5-1 victory at White Hart Lane.

Similarly, Roberto Mancini was able to do the double over the north Londoners during his title-winning campaign in the 2011/12 season.

The Citizens earned another 5-1 win away from home en route to lifting the trophy, with Eden Dzeko finding the net an incredible four times.

When the two sides met at the Etihad, a late Mario Balotelli insured all three points for the team in sky blue as they snuck past Spurs in a 3-2 victory.

Therefore, getting the win to wrap up the double would show that Spurs have a real chance of getting their hands on the title and they should be backed to get that result.

When the two teams met earlier in the season, Harry Kane and company looked impressive in a 4-1 win and are in good enough form to cause the Citizens problems once again.

Pochettino’s side have won six in a row in all competitions and should be backed at 5/2 to make it seven.

Conversely, Man City are coming into this game on the back of a 3-1 loss to Leicester City where they were outclassed in all departments.
