Crystal Palace line up late swoop for former England stopper

Published:

Having added to his front line in the shape of Emmanuel Adebayor Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew is focusing on the other end of the pitch with a late bid for QPR’s Rob Green.

The former England stopper’s Loftus Road career has come to a standstill with five more appearances for the R’s triggering a new contract for the 36-year-old.

Green’s arrival would likely mean the end of the road at Selhurst Park for one of a trio of goalkeepers, with Pardew already well stocked in that area.

However, Green would still find plenty of competition for a starting birth with Wales international Wayne Hennessy, long-time servant Julian Speroni and Alex McCarthy all on the Eagles’ books.

Palace are next in action against Bournemouth, with the Cherries heading to south London on Tuesday evening.

The hosts are 7/4 to keep a clean sheet against Eddie Howe’s men but who will be standing in between the sticks remains to be seen.
