Chelsea to pull out stops in battle for disgruntled PSG star

It appears the act of scoring a potentially decisive Champions League goal against Chelsea has strengthened the Blues’ desires to sign Edinson Cavani in the summer.

With the sides level at 1-1, Paris St-Germain’s Uruguayan striker came off the bench to have the final word on proceedings as the clock ticked down on Tuesday’s last-16, first-leg tie in Paris.

Cavani’s audacious finish ensured the French club head to London with noses in front for the return leg, but the big problem for PSG’s super sub is that it won’t guarantee him a start at Stamford Bridge in three weeks time.

The former Napoli hitman has consistently played the role of understudy to Zlatan Ibrahimovich in Laurent Blanc’s side this season, especially in Ligue 1, despite chiming in with 16 goals in all competitions.

It’s been a general theme of his PSG career since leaving Naples in 2013 and a move away from the Parc des Princes has been brewing for some time now.

With arguably only one genuinely stellar move left in him, the 29-year-old knows the ground is at its most fertile in the summer.

According to the Metro, via popular Italian football website TMW, Roman Abramovich is prepared to offer the World Cup star a monster package in a bid to ward off competition for his signature from the continent.

Atletico Madrid and Juventus are both known to be keeping a beady eye on developments in the French capital, though the striker’s potential availability could well see many more clubs swarming when the transfer window opens again.

Manchester United and Arsenal have also been heavily linked to Cavani in the past, but whether they could now match Chelsea’s ambition is questionable.
