Arsenal enter the chase to sign the ‘New Ozil’

Arsenal may already have the assist-king in Mesut Ozil on their books, but reports today are linking the Gunners with a move for the man who could one day take Ozil’s mantel at the Emirates.

Arsene Wenger’s men have reportedly joined the hunt for Schalke’s superstar winger Leroy Sane, with Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool in addition to a host other European heavyweights also in the mix for the attacker’s signature.

The 20-year-old has already been capped by Germany, and his performances this season for the Gelsenkirchken side have drawn plenty of attention.

Sane made his Schalke debut shortly after turning 18, building on that with 13 Bundesliga appearances and three goals last season.

A very handy return this season however of five goals and four assists from 21 appearances is what has got everybody talking, and Arsenal seem set to face a bidding war for the talented forward this summer.

Predominantly featuring on Schalke’s left side, Sane is comfortable on the opposite flank and can also do a job up front.

Given he only turned 20 last month, the German’s potential seemingly knows no limits.

The news won’t be well received by Serge Gnabry, who made 14 appearances for the Gunners two seasons ago before a nasty knee injury saw him miss the best part of a year.

Wenger is rumoured to be keen on loaning out the 20-year-old, but should Arsene snap up Sane’s signature, Gnabry’s days at the Emirates could be in numbered.

Arsenal meet Hull in the FA Cup for the third successive season this weekend, and the Premier League side are 4/7 favourites to see off their 2014 Final opponents.
