Alloa set to come up against derby-win boosted Hibs

The latest edition of the Edinburgh derby came in the Scottish Cup, with the Championship side beating their top-flight rivals.

Jason Cummings’ early winner was enough to give the team in green the win, but he also ended the game with a red card as did Hearts defender Blazej Augustyn.

The win not only gives Hibs bragging rights, but should also provide enough of a boost to help them challenge Rangers at the top of the Ladbrokes Scottish Championship.

Mark Warburton’s men are currently eight points clear of the Edinburgh side and have only lost twice in the league all season, with the last defeat coming at the hands of Falkirk all the way back in December.

However, the side currently in second place will take comfort in the fact that they have a game in hand on the league leaders and are heading into their next set of games on the back of the Hearts win.

This season has shown across the world that if you beat your biggest rival it will help you get results moving forward.

For example, after Barcelona beat Real Madrid 4-0 in El Clasico earlier in the campaign, the Catalan giants went on to have an impressive run.

Luis Enrique’s men won their next three games and scored 16 goals, with their opposition only able to get the ball in the net twice.

Similarly, Arsenal got a boost when they beat their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the Capital One Cup.

The Gunners went on to win seven of the following eight games they had after beating Spurs, scoring 18 times in that run and only conceding nine.

Even more impressively, they managed to beat Manchester United and Bayern Munich in that run, smashing five past the two footballing giants while not letting in a single goals.

Hibs will be hoping they can mirror these runs in order to make sure Rangers don’t run away with it at the top of the league.
