Why Adebayor to Palace could be a Man United boost

Crystal Palace’s alleged signing of Emmanuel Adebayor could pave the way for Manchester United to boost their attacking options.

The Eagles and the Red Devils have reportedly been battling it out for the services of Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani in recent weeks and while Old Trafford is still a bigger draw than Selhurst Park, despite the clamour for Louis van Gaal to be sacked, it is thought the south Londoners were heading the queue.

However, Eagles boss Alan Pardew is unlikely to follow up his interest if snapping up former Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham ace Adebayor.

This would likely leave United in pole position to sign the Algerian forward who has netted 13 goals in just 16 games for Sporting this season and caught the attention of may at the 2014 World Cup.

Reports suggest Slimani could be snapped up for as little as £12m but interest from fellow premier League sides Leicester and West Ham could ramp that fee up.

Slimani isn’t the only player on Louis van Gaal’s radar, however, with Dynamo Kiev defender Aleksander Dragovic apparently being line up for a £16m switch to Old Trafford.

According to Sport Mediaset, a deal to tie up the 24-year-old Austria international could be tied up inside the next 48 hours.

Thoughts of new arrivals will be put to one side this weekend, however, as the red devils make the sort trip up the M62 to take on bitter rivals Liverpool.

The red Devils go into the game as 23/10 underdogs, with Klopp’s Liverpool available at 6/5 to claim all three points. However, with both sides drawing last time out  a share of the points could be the way to go at 9/4.
