Watford are having a really good time of it in the Premier League this season and their current activity in the transfer window suggests they’re only looking up the table rather than down it.
The Hornets have activated the £6m release clause of Malaga winger Nordin Amrabat’s contract, and the Dutchman would be a welcome addition at Vicarage Road.
Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have conceded fewer goals than second-placed Leicester City this season, but with just 25 league goal scored it appears the Watford boss is keen to boost creative options in the offensive side of his team.
The 28-year-old began his professional career at FC Omniworld in 2006, before his performances saw him quickly snapped up by VVV-Venlo where Amrabat then courted attention from the biggest teams in Holland.
PSV saw off Feyenoord and Ajax for the winger’s signature, with Amrabat signing a four-year-deal for just over £2m.
After two impressive seasons with the Dutch giants, things tailed off in year three and the wide man joined Turkish side Kayserispor in January 2011.
Taking little time to find his way and after a host of assists and goals, Galatasaray came calling less than two years later.
Amrabat was a first-team regular in the side which romped to the 2013-2014 Turkish Superliga title and he featured strongly in the team’s Champions League quarter-final run, playing against Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The Moroccan international joined Malaga in January 2014 on an initial six-month loan deal, and a bright start saw the La Liga side extend the agreement for another year, before signing permanently with the Spanish club last April.
Amrabat played a key role in Malaga’s impressive ninth-placed finish last season, and after spending the first-half of this campaign on the sidelines, will be eager to play first team football at Vicarage Road.
A keen eye for an assist plus a tidy finisher, the Dutchman could be just the creative boost Watford have been looking for.
