Waghorn hot streak sees odds slashed for 50 goals this season

Published:

At the start of the season Ladbrokes offered a huge 66/1 that Waghorn would net 50 goals for Rangers this season, but such has been the forward’s form that price has come falling down.

It’s now just 16/1 that the 26-year-old hits a half-century this term, and he’s already over halfway there with 27 to his name thus far.

The former Sunderland striker began the season with two goals against Hibernian on the opening day, but just one strike in five games followed.

At that point, the 66/1 we offered back in July looked pretty unlikely.

However, a 15th-minute goal against Airdrie in September’s Scottish League Cup game sparked Waghorn into form which he has yet to relinquish.

Including that Airdrie goal, the South Shields-born striker has since scored a stunning 24 goals in 23 games.

All told the striker has 27 goals from 29 appearances this term including two hat-tricks and six doubles, and were he to feature – as expected – in most if not all of Ranger’s remaining fixtures, then he could be on for around 50 appearances.

Rangers are scoring for fun this season – averaging three goals a game in the Ladbrokes Championship – and the Glasgow side have at least 16 matches left this season.

Should they progress further into the cup competitions, that figure could reach 20, at which point – added to Waghorn’s current goal ratio – that 50 mark could well be in reach.

A hat-trick here and a brace there could be all the difference to make this incredible 66/1 shot come true.
