Villa to return to losing ways against high-flying Leicester

Published:

Aston Villa finally won a Premier League game when they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 in their mid-week clash, ending a winless run that stretched back to the opening day of the season.

Fans in Villa Park were shocked when Joleon Lescott’s header was fumbled into the net by Wayne Hennessey and they’ll be forgiven for not knowing how to react, given the fact a section of supporters have been trading expletives with the playing staff for quite some time.

The win hasn’t done much to stop fear of relegation, but will have put the hint of a smile on the face of the Villans.

However, those smiles are set to be wiped away less than a week after they cautiously appeared, with the visit of Leicester City.

The Foxes are level on points with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, with the win against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday further strengthening their title credentials.

Claudio Ranieri’s men have won 12 of their 21 top-flight outings and only Manchester City, with 39, can better the 38 goals scored by Jamie Vardy and company.

Leicester look certain to bag another three points against bottom-placed Villa and are favourites at 11/10.

Punters looking for a more prosperous bet should take advantage of the latest Ladbrokes offer, with the Foxes to win and both teams to score enhanced from 3/1 to 4/1.

When the two met at the King Power Stadium earlier in the season, the Villans were 2-0 up with only 30 minutes remaining.

With ‘Tactics Tim’ Sherwood at the helm they managed to win 3-2, but their two strikes prove they know how to penetrate the Leicester backline.

The Foxes may have kept three consecutive clean sheets in the league, but let in two against Tottenham in the FA Cup and have conceded more than any other team in the top four.

In terms of looking for someone to break the deadlock, you should look no further than Riyad Mahrez who opened the scoring in two of Leicester’s three wins in December.

The Algerian is priced at 11/2 to do so and would be the best bet for *Ladbrokes’ Double Odds First Goalscorer promotion.
