Van Gaal odds-on to leave Old Trafford before next league game

Louis van Gaal is staring at the Old Trafford exit and could be out before the Red Devils’ next Premier League outing, according to Ladbrokes.

Van Gaal has struggled to deliver on the pitch and with his side now officially boasting United’s worst points tally at this stage of the season since the inception of the Premier League it seems the former Barcelona, AZ Alkmaar and Bayern Munich boss will soon get his marching orders.

Ladbrokes make it an even-money shot that Van Gaal departs Old Trafford before Friday night’s FA Cup tie against Derby County, while it’s 4/6 he’s out before the Red Devils face Stoke City on February 2.

He’s 1/2 to be gone before United travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on February 7 and with José Mourinho the current favourite to replace the beleaguered United gaffer the 10/1 on the Portuguese manager being in the United dugout for that tie could represent great value.

James Curtis of Ladbrokes News said: “The confidence from United’s win over Liverpool was shattered with defeat to the Saints and it now looks a case of when, and not if, Van Gaal is given his marching orders.”

United seemed to have turned a corner with a vital, if ultimately uninspiring win over Liverpool last weekend, but having seen his side muster just two shots on target in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday, Van Gaal was booed from the pitch.

The experienced manager said the fans were right to boo him and his recent comments suggest he may walk away from the job, with a little bit of pride intact, before the United board point the finger and say you’re fired.
