Spieth set for another truck-load of wins after fast 2016 start

Jordan Spieth took the golf world by storm in 2015, claiming two major titles, finishing inside the top four of the other two, winning three more times on the PGA Tour and securing the FedEx Cup. His challenge in 2016 is to prove it wasn’t a one off.
In his first tournament appearance of the new season, the 22-year-old has certainly started on the right path. He won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions at a canter in Hawaii, putting a distance of eight shots between himself and closest rival Patrick Reed. In doing so, Spieth equalled Tiger Woods’ record of winning seven PGA Tour events before the age of 23.
His fast start should send a shiver down his rivals’ spines. In each of the past three seasons, Spieth has never found his groove so quickly.
Last year the Texan waited until his sixth appearance before entering the winners’ enclosure, in 2014 he waited until his penultimate outing of the campaign and claimed his first title of 2013 in the 28th week.
To have settled into form so rapidly this time around surely spells trouble for the rest of the golfing world and it comes as no surprise to see Spieth at the head of the market for three of the year’s four major tournaments.
He is 5/1 to retain his Masters Green Jacket and the same price to defend his US Open crown. Ladbrokes price him up at 7/1 second favourite to Rory McIlroy for the British Open and put the pair neck-and-neck in the betting to win the PGA Championship at 6s.
The world number one is also the bookmaker’s market leader to top the US money list in 2016 at 11/8 and certainly looks set for another glittering season on the fairways.
