Real Madrid ban opens door for Arsenal swoop on Juventus star

Published:

The announcement this week that both Real and Atletico Madrid could suffer transfer bans for the next two windows will have far reaching ramifications, and opens up opportunities for rival clubs.

One such chance could be coming Arsenal’s way with Juventus forward Alvaro Morata currently the centre of attention from both Madrid and north London.

Madrid had been keen on bringing the forward back to the Bernabeu in the summer, with a buy-back clause in the transfer that took him from Los Blancos to Turin in 2014.

However that may no longer be possible after this week’s decision, potentially freeing up a move for Morata from Arsene Wenger.

The Spaniard broke into the Madrid team in the 2013-14 season with a string of impressive performances, but he switched to Juve the following summer and settled quickly with 15 goals in his debut season – including the Italian side’s only goal in their Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

However things haven’t been so sweet for the 23-year-old in his second term with the Old Lady, and he’s failed to feature consistently in the first team.

Arsenal have been linked with the Spanish international for over a year, and with Olivier Giroud proving the Gunners’ only fully-fit striker for much of this campaign, Wenger seems eager to bring in reinforcements.

Alexis Sanchez has missed a third of Arsenal’s Premier League games this term, while Danny Welbeck is yet to feature at all.

Morata has proven his ability the highest level, and with a move back to Real seemingly now out of the question, the forward could now see Arsenal as a much more likely destination for first-team football should he choose to end a difficult spell in Serie A.

A deal may not be completed until the summer, but by that time Arsenal could be calling themselves Premier League champions.

To do so however, they’ll be wanting a win from their trip to Stoke on Sunday, something they are 10/11 to achieve with Ladbrokes.
