Raith boss delighted to land promising new striker

Raith Rovers’ promotion hopes have been given a boost with he loan signing of striker Louis Longridge.

The Hamilton Academical forward has joined Rovers on loan and boss Ray McKinnon believes his presence is a welcome addition in the fight for the play-offs.

In an interview with Capital City Press, McKinnon explained that with Jon Daly departing the club to make the first steps into coaching there was a gap in the squad that he is over the moon to have filled with such a promising player.

“He’s a young, quick striker and I’m looking forward to working with him between now and the end of the season. Hopefully he can give us something different,” he said.

“We were left a bit short up front, with Jon Daly playing his last game at the weekend and Craig Wighton going back to Dundee after his loan. It was an area we needed to strengthen and we wanted to get the right type in – and we’ve got somebody who’s young and fit, can run, can score goals and has good movement.”

McKinnon revealed that Longridge is in contention to come straight into the squad that will host Alloa later this evening in a game which sees the hosts priced up as the 2/5 favourites.

Athletic can be backed at 15/2 to claim a vital away win , with the draw available at 7/2.

Mark Stewart is the favourite to open the scoring at 7/2, with the 27-year-old netting six times so far this season, but having gone three games without a goal Longridge could well swoop in to steal the limelight and give Rovers fans, who have seen just two wins in 10 matches, something to cheer about.
