Premier League: Liverpool need to sign more than most, says poll

Published:

Jurgen Klopp needs a productive January more than any other Premier League manager, according to the latest Ladbrokes News poll.

With the transfer window now wide open we asked readers to air their views on which top flight club needs to do the most business in January and Liverpool was the most popular answer by some distance.

The Reds have already got the ball rolling with the signing of Serbian ace Marko Grujic expected in the coming days but with 54 per cent saying Anfield needs to be the hub of transfer actively there could be a fair few more new faces to come.

Unsurprisingly Aston Villa were second in the poll with a quarter of those polled saying Remi Garde will need to spend his way out of trouble if the Villans are to improve on their return of just eight points and perform a miracle escape from relegation.

Completing the top three was our ‘other’ option, with nine per cent of readers saying other sides not on the list will need to spend big in the winter window in order to improve their chances.

Manchester United are never far away from a transfer rumour and with the Red Devils’ on-field problems being well documented eight per cent of voters said Louis van Gaal should be the man busiest with his chequebook.

Chelsea were next with just four per cent, indicating that many people believe new manager Guus Hiddink already has the squad at his disposal to give Blues fans a better second half of the season.

The only other clubs on the shortlist were Arsenal and Sunderland and while both club’s fortunes could not be further apart this season it seems fans are content with what they have.

The Gunners top the table so it can hardly be argued that they are lacking in strength, while the Black Cats showed what they can achieve in beating Villa 3-1 at the weekend and could quite easily dig themselves out of the relegation zone in the coming weeks with the players already residing at the Stadium of Light.
