Porto’s Cameroon star captures Claudio Ranieri’s attention

Some say that when life hands you lemons, you need to make lemonade, and right now that lemonade for Leicester City is Champions League football next season.

The Foxes survived a tricky festive period of matches and sit second in the Premier League table on 40 points – the number which boss Claudio Ranieri said and has continually said is Leicester’s target this season.

With that now met, it appears Ranieri is on the move to make the most of the position he and his side find themselves in, and the capturing of Birmingham hotshot Demarai Grey is a testament to the club building on what they already have rather than resting on their laurels.

Even with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez tormenting Premier League defences on a regular basis this term, the tinkerman is still in the market for a striker.

Reports in the press state the Italian is keen to bring Porto’s sought-after striker Vincent Aboubaka to the King Power stadium.

The Portuguese side signed Aboubaka in the summer of 2014 from French club Lorient, and the Cameroon international has dealt with the switch admirably.

Aboubaka has netted six times in 14 appearances this term, including three in his last four league and cup fixtures.

A physical presence at a shade over 6ft 1in, Aboubaka turns 24 shortly and should be approaching his peak years on the pitch.

Ranieri’s interest in the Porto man could stem from Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki all turning 30 this year, in addition to the seemingly quite-likely prospect of adapting to the extra toll of playing European football next season.

Leicester are 11/4 to finish in the top three and 11/10 for a top-10 finish and it looks like should Foxes fans find themselves enjoying European football next season, their boss is on the move to ensure they have a squad capable of doing so adequately.
