POLL: Would a League Cup win make up for missing the top four?

Published:

Last night’s penalty shootout win over Stoke ensured Jurgen Klopp’s first season as Liverpool manager will include a trip to Wembley for a cup final.

Joe Allen scored the decisive spot-kick after saves from Simon Mignolet handed Liverpool the advantage and there’s no doubt the cup run has been a welcome relief to some indifferent league form.

With the Reds eight points off the fourth-place spot currently occupied by Tottenham, a League Cup win would give the Merseysiders some satisfaction should Champions League football evade Anfield once more.

It’s a similar tale in the blue half of the city where Everton should arguably be fighting for a top-four spot with the squad at their disposal, so would a League Cup win make up for their struggles in the Premier League?

Roberto Martinez has come under pressure in recent weeks with the Toffees picking up just nine points from 10 league games, so how far would a League Cup trophy go to easing that flack?

Liverpool have won just one trophy since 2006, while Everton haven’t won a competition for 21 years.

So today’s poll is, would a League Cup victory make up for missing out on the top four in the Premier League?
