POLL: Will Messi, Ronaldo or Neymar win tonight’s Ballon d’Or?

Published:

Since the current guise of the Ballon d’Or came to be in 2010, the award has been utterly dominated by two men and they don’t look like relinquishing their duopoly just yet.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi claimed the award for the first three years, but Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has taken the accolade in each of the last two.

Even when one doesn’t win it, second place has gone to one of these two global superstars, with only Andreas Iniesta breaking up the domination when runner-up in 2010.

This year’s challenge comes from Messi’s team-mate Neymar, but despite his emergence as a bonafide ace with Barca, it’s the Argentine magician who remains heavy favourite this time around.

Messi was instrumental in helping Barcelona achieve a European treble last season, and despite injury at the start of the current campaign, his recent return has seen the 28-year-old come back as sharp as ever.

Ronaldo produced his best ever figures for Real last term – netting a stunning 48 La Liga goals in 35 appearances but the capital side’s failure to win a trophy will be a hindrance at tonight’s awards.

Or, for the first time ever, will someone else win this amalgamated award? Neymar netted 39 times last season – a huge improvement on the 15 during his first year in Spain.

The Brazilian has continued his rich form this term, but can he or Ronaldo topple Messi tonight?
