Published:

Football purists and club managers may both moan about any fixture not played at 3pm on a Saturday but the latest round of mid-week Premier League fixtures was a welcome reminder of how exciting England’s top flight can be.

With two 3-3 draws, another Leicester win and a rare victory for Aston Villa this latest round of games may have left many punters tearing up their acca slips but the quality of football on display is some consolation.

With screamers flying in from all angles there were a handful of contenders for goal of the season but here at Ladbrokes News we can’t even decide which strike should be goal of the week.

So we’re going to let you decide, read on to see our top six and have your say in the poll below.

Wayne Rooney – Newcastle v Manchester United

Rooney is suddenly back in form with four goals from his last three games. His backheeled effort against Swansea was a sign of things to come and this belter against the Magpies shows the United and England captain is back to his best…

Roberto Firmino – Liverpool v Arsenal

Question marks have hung over the Brazilian since his big money arrival from Hoffenheim but he looked every inch the star man against the Gunners, capping a fine display with this pearler…

Dimitri Payet – Bournemouth v West Ham

Not to be outdone by his team-mate, Payet who was a thorn in the Cherries’ side all night at Dean Court proved his dead ball ability with this fine free-kick…

Olivier Giroud – Liverpool v Arsenal

The Frenchman may not have smashed his goal in with the ferocity of the others on this list but his first touch to create the opportunity was divine, setting up a chance which he took with aplomb…

Jonny Howson – Stoke v Norwich

Canaries fans thought their side were right back in it at the Britannia when midfield maestro Howson ripped the top corner out with this strike. It wasn’t to be for the visitors as the Potters won 3-1 but it’s one for the Howson scrapbook all the same…
