Motherwell boss Mark McGhee hints at midfield additions

Motherwell boss Mark McGhee is on the hunt for a midfield boost in order to give his side’s top six aspirations a shot in the arm.

Well currently lie eighth in the Ladbrokes Premiership just four points behind Dundee in sixth and McGhee feels the addition of a central midfielder could give his side added impetus in the second half of the season.

However, with Scottish clubs struggling to find the cash to entice players McGhee claims recruitment is no easy task at Fir Park.

“I think we would probably benefit from another central midfield player so we’re looking at it,” he said.

“Transfer windows are difficult for clubs like ourselves. We don’t have funds, so we are trying to mix and match and swap and maybe lose one to get one.

“And every other team outside of Celtic are doing the same, they are looking at the same players, talking to the same people and we have all more or less got the same purse strings.”

Well can take a big step towards a top six finish this weekend when they host fifth-placed Ross County.

McGhee’s side go into the game as slight outsiders at 15/8, with the Staggies on at 11/8 and the draw available at 12/5.

Beat Jim McIntyre’s men on Saturday and entice a new midfield talent through the door before the end of the transfer window though and Motherwell’s top six odds could soon be slashed.
