Manchester United to prove adidas wrong this weekend

Published:

Manchester United have been chalked up at 10/1 to make shirt sponsor adidas eat their words this weekend with an all out attacking performance in the FA Cup.

The Red Devils welcome Sheffield United to Old Trafford with the criticism of the German sportswear manufacturer still ringing in their ears.

Herbert Hainer, the man behind adidas’ world-record £750m sponsorship of United, recently claimed that while the company are happy with the number of shirts sold the style of play under Louis van Gaal is “is not exactly what we want to see.

The comments have heaped yet more pressure on the United gaffer and Ladbrokes have issued odds of 16/1 that the club and the kit manufacturer part company this summer.

It’s not the first time United’s performances and the manufacturer of their kit have been mentioned in the same conversation with former manager Sir Alex Ferguson famously blaming the club’s old grey kit for an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Southampton.

Van Gaal, seems unlikely to follow suit, however, with Ladbrokes going 20/1 that the Dutchman directly blames a United strip for defeat this season.

Far more likely, according to the bookmaker, is that United force Hainer’s words down his throat this weekend with goal-crazy showing against the Blades.

Odds of 10/1 can be had on United being the highest-scoring team in this weekend’s FA Cup matches and with both Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial netting confidence-boosting goals in the recent 2-1 win over Swansea there could be plenty of punters tempted to take a piece of the action.
