Liverpool must splash the cash to get transfer target

The latest development in the January transfer window is that Liverpool are edging ever closer to signing Alex Teixeira.

According to the Daily Star, via the well-known source Futbol Ukraine, the Reds have agreed personal terms with their target.

However, as the Liverpool Echo reports, the Premier League side are unable to agree on a fee with Shakhtar Donestk.

Losing out on the 26-year-old would be a big blow for the Merseysiders and they must make sure they don’t miss out on this huge talent.

The Brazilian attacking midfielder has scored 25 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season and is one of the most lethal players in Europe.

Of course, you could dismiss this form by stating that playing in Ukraine isn’t the highest standard you can compete in on the continent, but that would be unfair.

Teixeira has not only proven his worth domestically, but also looked impressive in his Champions League outings.

The Shakhtar man scored three times in his last two group stage matches, including a brace against Real Madrid.

Sergio Ramos and company struggled to deal with the Brazilian’s skill and trickery, with the Spanish giants lucky to emerge as 4-3 victors.

Therefore, Liverpool must be prepared to splash the cash to make this deal go through and must not be wary of making a substantial investment.

The Reds are likely to be sceptical about shelling out considerable amounts of cash given their recent outlay, but this shouldn’t put them off Teixeira.

This summer alone, the Anfield outfield parted with £67.3million to bring in the likes of Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Nathaniel Clyne.

Benteke can’t get in the team, while the other deals clearly haven’t worked out as well as hoped, with the Merseysiders currently outside the top six.

However, their latest transfer target is clearly worth the risk and would be able to justify a fee of more than £30million.
