Ladbrokes Premiership: Dundee United to pick up a crucial win

Published:

Some Dundee United fans may have given up on Ladbrokes Premiership survival this season but those inside the club are still fighting and a golden opportunity for a much-needed, confidence-boosting win presents itself this weekend.

Kilmarnock may be 14 points clear of the Terrors but as the team second bottom in the league and with just one win from their last five on the road Mixu Paatelainen has a chance to instil some belief in his players ahead of this crunch tie.

United simply must win if they are to retain any hope of beating the drop and while many eyes will be on the action at Tannadice there’s a full line-up of Scottish top flight action to keep you entertained this week.

Here’s what to expect from the weekend’s fixtures:

Celtic v St Johnstone

St Johnston’s away streak of four wins came to a halt when losing their last game on the road and that defeat comes at just the wrong time with Parkhead their next destination. Celtic have lost just one of their last five at home and come into this game on the back of three straight wins. Having won four of the last five meetings, scoring three goals in three of those ties, another comprehensive win could be on the cards here.
Best Bet: Celtic (-2) @ 6/4

Dundee United v Kilmarnock

The Terrors come into this game on the back of four straight losses at home but Killie are their best chance to reverse that trend with the visitors winning just one of their last five on the road. United held Gary Locke’s men to a draw last time the sides met and could be value to go one better here.
Best bet: Dundee United to win @ 21/20

Inverness CT v Partick Thistle

Caley’s four-game unbeaten run came to an end when losing 2-1 to Killie last time out and that result will boost the confidence of a Partick side that has lost just one of their last five on the road. The Jags have also lost just one of the last five meetings between these two, making them the side to back in this fixture.
Best bet: Partick to win @ 19/10

Motherwell v Ross County

Motherwell may have lost last time out but it was their only defeat in five games and the same can be said for their last five as hosts. The exact opposite is true of the Staggies, who have won one of their last five and one of their last five on the road. However, with three of the last five meetings ending all square the sides might have to settle for a point here.
Best Bet: Draw @ 12/5

Hamilton v Hearts

Hamilton can’t buy a win at the moment and come into this tie having lost three on the bounce in front of their own fans. Away wins have been scarce for Hearts of late, with just one from their last five attempts, but with two wins form their last three anywhere the Jam Tarts have to be favoured here. With three of the last five meetings ending 2-0 to the Jambos the omens don’t look good for the Accies.
Best Bet: Hearts to win 2-0 @ 9/1
