Ladbrokes League 1: Expect goals when the two form sides clash

Published:

The title race in Ladbrokes League 1 might look like it is all but over, but Allan Johnston’s Dunfermline mustn’t get too complacent with plenty of football to be played yet.

You can be fairly certain that the runaway leaders will really be put to the test when an in-form Peterhead side host them on Saturday.

The Blue Toon are unbeaten since the end of October, and have scored 16 goals in their last four games.

Turning over the Pars will be tough though, and with Michael Moffat and Faissal El Bakhtaoui in fine form, it might be safer to back over 2.5 goals at 9/20.

An upset would see Peterhead overtake Ayr United who have been in dismal form of late.

Luckily for The Honest Men, their opponents Albion Rovers are equally out of sorts, with the sides picking up two league wins between them since the start of December.

The sides may be sat in second and fourth place but neither are looking like real promotion candidates on recent showings.

Bottom side Brechin are out to break a duck of sorts this weekend, as they look to beat Airdrieonians for the first time in 10 games.

They do have some encouragement to take into the fixture, having scored in five of the last six games, something they struggled with at the start of the campaign.

The Diamonds have lost three of their last four so can’t be backed with confidence, making a score draw a tempting proposition. The 1-1 draw can be backed at 13/2 and looks a solid enough bet.

This weekend could be a monumental one for Forfar who have not won in the league since August 22 as they take on an out-of-sorts Stenhousemuir.

Stenny have lost four of their last five fixtures in all competitions and have lost five of their last six against the Loons. Could Athletic’s win drought end and reward those taking the 3/2 on a home win?

Stranraer were the latest victims of Peterhead’s rampant run when going down 5-1 to the Blue Toon last week and could be in for another beating at the hands of Cowdenbeath.

Cowden haven’t lost at home since August, and at 23/20 look value for success.
