Kamara: Adebayor can be the answer to Crystal Palace’s prayers

Crystal Palace look to have pulled off a fantastic signing in Emmanuel Adebayor in their quest to increase their productivity in front of goal.

The former Arsenal man has got his critics but he’s without a doubt a risk worth taking in the short term for any team lacking in goals.

He always delivers an instant boost wherever he has gone, one look at his record will tell you that.

You simply cannot see a fault in giving him a contract to the end of the season with his goalscoring prowess.

The one small worry I would have would be his fitness because he’s been away from Spurs for nearly six months now and with the best will in the world he’s only been training on his own.

But if he can allay those fears around his match sharpness and I think a fit Adebayor on a short-term contract is a bet to nothing.

He’s a quality player that will score you goals, but he’s obviously had his problems and from the moment he left Arsenal he’s had trouble delivering consistently over a long period of time.

Despite that everybody deserves an opportunity to show that they can change and they are different now and I don’t think Alan Pardew would have signed him if he didn’t think he could fit in well at Selhurst Park.

As you get older and more experienced, you sit back and think about the mistakes that you might have made in the past and I’m sure Adebayor will do just that.

At some stage he’s got to show that he wants to perform at the highest level for years to come, and he’s certainly said the right things since arriving in south London.

His determination to break Didier Drogba’s record for most goals scored by an African player in the Premier League, for which he needs nine, can only be seen as a massive statement of intent.

It’s a big incentive for the player himself and I think he could easily do that in the remaining weeks of this season if he is fit.

He can’t go from being named African Footballer of the Year in the past to being a complete dud, there is still a quality footballer there with plenty of talent.

It’s not like Palace are playing badly at the moment, they are just not sticking the ball in the back of the net and in Adebayor I think they have just the man to remedy that.
