Fantasy Football: Front men the key as The Believer’s Wildcard delivers

Published:

It might be too little too late for The Believer to get one over on the rest of the Ladbrokes Life quintet, but by playing his Wildcard he bolstered his chances of avoiding the wooden spoon.

A week of wholesale changes were needed as he languished bottom of the pile in the battle for pride among the group.

And they certainly paid dividends, with a total of 60 points coming his way to breach the 1,000 point mark this season.

Most of those came at the hands of his front three. Captain Sergio Aguero, Jamie Vardy and Odion Ighalo scored four goals and set up one other to bring in 43 points between them.

An assist from Riyad Mahrez was the other bright spark in the side as our man continues to believe he can escape bottom spot.

At the top of the table, we could soon have a new leader as Mr Brightside once again closed the gap on Generous John.

Brightside too had Manchester City’s two-goal hero as captain as well as Watford’s leading scorer but also had Dele Alli in the line-up.

His wonder-goal against Crystal Palace should really have been awarded double points, but managers up and down the land will have to settle with the 13 he delivered.

A total of 64 points saw the gap to the long time leader of the pack cut to just nine points.

Generous John didn’t have a bad week by any stretch of the imagination, but with the aforementioned trio of Aguero, Ighalo and Mahrez his only representatives to score more than two points a tally of 56 will have to do.

He remains in front of the rest, but with his lead reduced again it could only be a matter of time before he drops into second.

A similar mix of Argentine Citizens, Watford strikers and Leicester wing wizards saw The Gut Truster tot up a wholly respectable 57 points.

He sits right in the middle of the pack and could yet slip into the scrap to avoid the bottom spot or even put up a fight for the bragging rights.

The lowest score of the week goes to The Professor who just about breached the 50-point mark with, Alli aside, a collection of average scores from across his starting XI.

The six points added for Robert Huth, Mahrez and Deeney ensured that he passed the overall average well enough, but work needs to be done if he is fend off The Believer in fifth.

In the Ladbrokes Life League Howard Clark tops the table once again, outscoring previous leader Scott Stanley by 27 points.

His 70 point haul, with the familiar faces of Aguero and Ighalo leading the way  and Cesar Azpilicueta and Craig Dawson adding clean sheet points sees Clark’s lead at the top stand at eight points.

Can he hold out until the end of the season? Or will someone knock him off his perch? Time will certainly tell.
