Everton v Manchester City: Ladbrokes’ price boost too good to miss

Published:

Manchester City may have left it late to come from behind to score three points over Watford last weekend, but with Ladbrokes latest price boost, bagging a road double is well worth backing.

Ahead of the Citizens’ Capital One Cup semi-final first-leg, the bookmakers have boosted the price on the visitors triumphing with both them and opponents Everton finding the back of the net.

Instead of the 5/2 previously offered, you can now get 3/1 on such a feat which looks plenty of value ahead of the action at Goodison Park.

City’s away form has been distinctly average this term, winning just half of their 14 road trips in all competitions.

Nevertheless, with the Watford victory under their belts and a solid record on the road in domestic cup competitions they can be backed to continue that run.

It’s been nearly five-and-a-half years since they lost away from home in either the FA Cup or League Cup, winning 10 of their 14 matches in that period.

Securing at least the Capital One Cup will surely be the bare minimum for Manuel Pellegrini this season with Pep Guardiola lurking in the shadows.

It could be that even lifting the trophy at Wembley won’t be enough to save the Chilean in the summer, but you can certainly expect the 62-year-old to give the fixture his full attention.

However, even if the Manchester outfit are successful in bagging an advantage to take back to the Etihad, it is unlikely to come without a cost.

Seven of City’s last 10 wins on the road have come with both teams finding the back of the net, and against an Toffees outfit that have scored in 16 of their last 17 matches in all competitions, that tally is likely to be added to.

While Everton have got to the last four by right, they haven’t blown their opposition away, requiring extra time against Barnsley, coming back from 1-0 down at Reading and needing penalties to see off Norwich before beating Championship highflyers Middlesbrough in the quarters.

Their form of late will be a concern for fans of the blue half of Merseyside as well with just three wins in their last 13, two against sides struggling in the Premier League, Aston Villa and Newcastle, and the aforementioned success over Boro.

The performance of on-fire striker Romelu Lukaku will be paramount to their success, but even if their 15-goal striker transfers his league form to the cup, both Manchester City fans and shrewd Ladbrokes punters could be ones cheering come the final whistle.
