David Haye odds-on to reclaim World Heavyweight title

David Haye is now odds-on to reclaim the World Heavyweight title after making light work of Australian Mark de Mori in his comeback fight at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday.
Haye had been out of the ring for three and half years, since a knockout victory over Dereck Chisora in 2012, and many questioned the wisdom of the Bermondsey boxer returning to action at the age of 35.
However, those doubts were obliterated when Haye knocked De Mori out after just 131 seconds to send alarm bells ringing through the Heavyweight division.
In the aftermath of his victory Haye called out fellow Brit Anthony Joshua and after AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn said a showdown between the two was inevitable Ladbrokes has cut the older man to 5/4 to beat the 2012 Olympic gold medallist.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Haye couldn’t have done it any easier in his comeback and as such his odds of becoming a world champion again have been cut.
The betting suggests he’d be a serious test for Joshua if the fight happened.”
AJ would still go into any fight as the marginal favourite, with the bookmaker pricing the Watford man at 4/6, but with Haye now 8/11 to be crowned Heavyweight champ before 2019 there is every chance the two Londoners could avoid each other.
With the unheralded Charles Martin being crowned IBF champion over the weekend, after the heavily-fancied Vyacheslav Glazkov retired from their title bout with an injured knee, Haye may just fancy a crack at the belt that was recently stripped from Tyson Fury.
And then there’s Fury himself. Haye and the self-styled Gypsy King have twice been scheduled to meet before and while Fury claims Haye has now blown his chance , public demand for a domestic dust-up between these two fighters, with at least two belts on the line, would surely make sense for all involved.
