Crystal Palace’s odds halved in race to sign Loic Remy

Published:

As Chelsea move nearer to welcoming Alexandre Pato to Stamford Bridge, so Loic Remy looms closer and closer to the exit door in west London.

The Frenchman has started just one Premier League game this term, and even a change in management from Jose Mourinho to Guus Hiddink has failed to ignite his career with the reigning Premier League champions.

The impending arrival of Pato has only hastened Remy’s likelihood of departing during this January transfer window, and a host of clubs are in the chase for the former Marseille man.

Newcastle are 5/2 favourites, with Remy enjoying a successful spell in the north-east during the 2013-14 season, notching 14 league goals in 26 appearances.

Having spent almost £25m on midfielders however, it remains to be seen what further business the Magpies will do in this window.

It’s Crystal Palace who are the big movers in the market now, with their odds slashed from 6/1 to 3/1.

Alan Pardew’s men have failed to score in five of their last six league contests, and despite their general success this term have struggled to field a forward who will score goals on a regular basis.

The Selhurt Park outfit’s front quartet of Fraizer Campbell, Dwight Gayle, Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh boast just one Premier League goal between them this term.

With Palace enduring a six-game winless run which has seen them slip into the bottom half, the arrival of Remy could be the spark required to fire the Eagles into the top-half of the table.

The move would also mean Remy stays in the capital, as opposed to a long-haul to the north-east.

Premier League basement-dwellers Aston Villa are a 6/1 shot to sign the forward, with Swansea and Sunderland both considered outsiders at 12s.

Southampton were in the mix, but their odds have now drifted to 20/1 following the arrival of Charlie Austin on the south coast.
