Crystal Palace should look to Championship ace to solve problem

Crystal Palace have failed to find the net in their last three Premier League outings and this highlights a worrying trend that Alan Pardew must address.

Only one of the Eagles’ strikers has got on the scoresheet in the league this season, with Connor Wickham notching a solitary goal.

This run needs to stop as otherwise it could see Palace fall away from their respectable seventh-place position and one option is to bring someone in during the transfer window.

Loic Remy is being touted as the solution to this problem, with the Chelsea forward priced at 4/1 to be a Crystal Palace player by the end of January.

Clearly, the Frenchman is a quality goalscorer and his 12 goals in only 13 starts across his career for the Blues reflect this.

However, at 29 years old and having suffered five injuries over his three-year Premier League stay, he would be a risky signing.

Bringing in an injury-prone player in January would be a massive gamble and the 31 games missed by Remy since 2012 reflect this.

Therefore, in order to solve their striking problems, the Eagles need to look elsewhere and the Championship would be a good starting point.

Charlie Austin is an obvious option, but seems more likely to be heading to Leicester City, Bournemouth or Southampton.

Thus, Pardew should look to recruit Jordan Rhodes, as bringing in one of the Football League’s most prolific strikers would guarantee goals.

The Scotland international has scored 154 times in 270 league games since his move to Huddersfield from Ipswich in 2009.

This helped him find form and he has continued scoring at current club Blackburn Rovers.

At the age of 25 now is the time for Rhodes to finally make the step up to the top flight after years of speculation and joining a side in desperate need of a goalscorer would make perfect sense.

The Eagles’ lack of striking talent means the Blackburn frontman wouldn’t have to settle for life on the bench and this is something that would have been a risk with previous moves.
