Cowdenbeath striker Greig Spence named League 1 Player of the Month

Published:

At the start of December Greig Spence was a 6/1 chance to be Ladbrokes League 1 top goalscorer but a glut of goals last month saw him not only slashed to 11/4, but also land the Player of the Month Award.

The Cowdenbeath striker was the focal point of a Blue Brazil side that won all three of their fixtures in the league last month, netting five of their eight goals in the process.

Although they were turned over by an all-conquering Dunfermline side at the start of the year, that trio of victories sees Colin Nish’s men as real contenders for the play-off spots.

After a slow start to the campaign, their upturn in form sees them just four points off Albion Rovers in fourth spot.

While the team didn’t get the result against the Pars last time out in the league, Spence continued where he left off, by finding in the back of the net to score in his fifth consecutive league fixture.

His recent strikes now put the former Raith Rovers striker on 13 goals for the season, with only Peterhead’s Rory McAllister ahead of him on 14.

Keep up the form that has seen him claim December’s gong though, and it would be no surprise to see him usurp the Blue Toon man, and help Cowden to a loftier finishing position come the end of the season.

Next up for Spence and co. is a visit to Ayr United who continue to struggle after threatening a title challenge for the first half of the season.

Net in that fixture, and not only will it be six matches in a row on the scoresheet for the 23-year-old but will also see him surpass the combined total of league goals he achieved in the last two seasons.
