3 strikers that could tempt Pardew at Palace this January

Published:
Alan Pardew

Refreshingly, Alan Pardew is a pretty open book when it comes to his dealings with the media. In keeping with that style, the Crystal Palace boss admitted in the aftermath of his side’s FA Cup win over Southampton that it’s a striker, and only a striker, that interests him during the January transfer window.

However, having vehemently ruled out the possibility of signing Charlie Austin or Emmanuel Adebayor prior to that battle with the Saints, it seems there are other targets the former Newcastle boss is set on.

Here are three possibilities:

Saido Berahino – West Brom

The Burundi-born goalscorer’s days look to be numbered at the Hawthorns, with Tony Pulis rarely handing the England U21 international a start these days and claiming five clubs have registered an interest in signing him.

Tottenham are likely to be the highest profile suitors, but aren’t likely to improve Berahino’s game time, while the Eagles, who are just five points behind the Lilywhites in the Premier League, could.

Andre Gray – Burnley

Gray has been an unbridled success since becoming the Clarets’ big-money signing last summer, scoring 13 goals so far to be the Championship’s joint-leading scorer.

That he has only spent half a season with Sean Dyche’s club may prove a sticking point in any potential Eagles interest, but he certainly has the pace and power to fit well into Pardew’s preferred counter-attacking style.

Wissam Ben Yedder – Toulouse

Heading abroad for a new recruit, while Palace manager at least, hasn’t been the Pardew way. But if there is anyone the silver-haired tactician should break tradition for it’s Ben Yedder.

The 25-year-old has been a proven goal scorer in the French league for the past three seasons, scoring 15, 16 and 14 league goals in each of those campaigns, and has seven to his name already this term.
