Why 100/1 shot’s 2015 form makes him World Championship threat

Going through the darts season without reaching a final, let alone winning a tournament, would probably not be considered a good campaign by most professionals, unless your name is Mensur Suljovic.
The Yugoslavian-born Austrian has enjoyed his best term as a PDC player in 2015, despite failing to get into the last two in any event.
A host of career-best finishes in the major tournaments mean that the 43-year-old can be resoundingly pleased with his efforts though and should ensure he arrives at the upcoming World Championships in supreme confidence.
Unfortunately, Ladbrokes don’t share the same belief in the world number 21 and mark him out as a 100/1 shot to claim a monumental victory in the sport’s biggest competition.
However, that price certainly shouldn’t dissuade Suljovic’s supporters from backing him in other Ladbrokes markets, as he’s shown in numerous televised tournaments this season that he’s a man for the big occasion.
The Gentle has rung up no less than four career bests from the PDC’s six major tournaments this season, the highlights of which were his semi-final appearances in both the World Grand Prix and Players Championship Finals.
Suljovic lost to Robert Thornton and Adrian Lewis respectively in those but has also earned quarter-final berths in the World Matchplay and UK Open this term.
He finds himself in one of the tougher quarters at Alexandra Palace, sharing a bracket with Adrian Lewis, Peter Wright and Dave Chisnall, but will surely fancy his chances of a long overdue run in London and is an appealing 10/1 to prevail from his section of the draw.
In all of the previous three (and four of the last five) World Championships the Austrian has departed at the first-round stage, but is drawn against European Pro Tour qualifier Jermaine Wattimena and is heavily favoured to progress at 1/7.
