Who can stop Bieber? 5 long shots for Christmas Number One

Published:

With odds of 1/5 and two songs at the top end of the UK chart Canadian pop sensation Justin Bieber is seemingly on course to land the 2015 Christmas Number One spot.

With Sorry and Love Yourself proving hugely popular it seems no one can stop the baby-faced singer but there are some alternatives to ponder.

The midweek numbers indicate that the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir could give the Biebster a run for his money and with A Bridge Over You available at 3/1 and with a charitable cause behind it could pay out to back the south-London based ensemble – just be sure to donate some of your winnings!

According to the betting it’s a two horse race with the next best priced up at 33/1 and beyond but strange things can happen in the days before Christmas so lumping on a long shot might just pay off – here are five offerings to ponder…

You Don’t Own Me – Grace featuring G-Eazy @ 33/1

Not exactly the most festive of songs but the Aussie singer’s number does have a dramatic bassline and its popularity soared after X Factor hopeful Lauren Murray performed it live on the ITV talent show.

History – One Direction @ 33/1

Like it or not 1D are the biggest band on the planet and with History – also performed on the X Factor by the boys themselves – being the last single before a self-imposed break, it would surprise few people of this song topped the charts on Friday.

Sweet Lovin – Sigala featuring Bryn Christopher @ 66/1

As a stone-cold dance number this one will need the support of the festive party goers to get involved but they’ve been doing that in their droves already and with the biggest party night of the year just around the corner a late surge could see Sigala steal it.

Adventure of a Lifetime – Coldplay @ 100/1

Everyone’s favourite easy-listening band are back and their latest single flew straight into the top 10. Lead singer Chris Martin has a voice that sounds as though he is constantly narrating a John Lewis advert so don’t be surprised if the Coldplay boys top the charts.

Shut Up – Stormzy @ 100/1

The grime artist was guilty of just one thing and that was mistiming his run. After performing Anthony Joshua’s entrance music live from the ring at the O2 Arena Shut Up rocketed from number 89 to number three. It seems as though the Shut Up campaign has run out of steam but should the anti-Bieber brigade get a second wind the Londoner could Stormz back up the charts.
