Where to put your money in Scotland’s streakiest division
They say that the Christmas period and the flurry of fixtures it brings is the perfect time to build a run of momentum. But as the festive season approaches, most of the Ladbrokes Championship are already deep into their groove.
Whether it’s Hibernian’s relentless winning run in pursuit of Rangers at the top of the table, Morton’s climb into the promotion conversation or Alloa’s despair at the bottom, there are a number of sides deep into some streak or other.
But where should your money be going to best capitalise on Scotland’s second tier form phenomenon:
Hibernian – 8 wins in a row
Despite Rangers’ unerring dominance in the division, Hibernian have managed to cling to their coattails the whole way, closing the gap to just three points after winning all of their last eight games.
They’ve defeated Mark Warburton’s men amongst that streak and have scored two or more goals in six of those eight wins.
They face Greenock Morton next, themselves unbeaten in five, and are priced up at 2/5 with the sponsors.
St Mirren – 8 games without a home win
Ian Murray’s men are languishing towards the bottom of the division thanks largely to their horrific home form.
The Buddies are yet to win at home from eight attempts and haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of those games, which is a real worry ahead of the visit of Queen of the South at the weekend.
St Mirren are unlikely to beat their 33/20-rated visitors if their run of woe at the back continues.
Alloa Athletic – 6 games lost in a row
The death knell isn’t far from tolling for the Wasps this season, who have won just once all season and are six points from safety.
They’ve lost all of their last six games since drawing 1-1 with St Mirren in September and are actually without a win in 10 straight league assignments.
They host Dumbarton, who are 29/20 to prevail, next and have actually gone three games without scoring too.
