Rigid Man Utd look to break the shackles with Galactico signing

| 06.12.2015

Entertainment isn’t a word regularly associated with Manchester United at the moment. After their sixth goalless draw of the season against West Ham United at the weekend their fans booed them off at Old Trafford in growing frustration at the team’s style.

It comes as little surprise then that the Sunday papers have found an opportune time to report that the Red Devils will try to land one “Galactico” in the summer, with a supposed war chest of £200m primed to bring a little excitement back to the club.

According to the Daily Mirror, the club has drawn up a shortlist of the highest profile players in the world and will launch a campaign to land one of them when the season comes to a close.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Neymar are the three the paper mentions, with a source quoted as saying: “Manchester United must have a player who will be in the top 10 on the list to win the Ballon d’Or”.

Although the thought of having Ronaldo back in a United kit, or luring Bale or Neymar to the club, is likely to send Red Devil hearts fluttering, some may question whether Louis van Gaal is the manager to oversee them.

The Dutchman has already spent over £250m on new players at the club and in that time has failed to work with superstars like Angel Di Maria and Memphis Depay. Is he the right man to manage free spirits like Ronaldo, Bale and Neymar?

According to the Iron Tulip, Man United aren’t capable of winning the Champions League in their current state, another reason why the Glazer family could be convinced to launch a mammoth bid to sign a star.

After their stalemate with the Hammers, United are three points off Leicester at the top of the league and are 6/1 to win the title.

Their next match comes in Europe, where a 2/1-rated win over Wolfsburg in Germany will secure the club’s progression to the knockout round of the Champions League.
