Poll: Should Chelsea ditch Diego Costa in January?

Published:

Chelsea’s defence of their Premier League title has been laughable so far this season, with the Blues currently languishing in 14th place.

Jose Mourinho’s side have won just one of their last five league games, narrowly beating newly-promoted Norwich 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The club’s demise has taken its toll on a number of relationships within the club, most notably that between Mourinho and last year’s star striker Diego Costa.

The Spain international scored an impressive 20 goals in 26 appearances last term as the Blues went on to claim the title, but the 27-year-old has been a shadow of his former self this term, netting just three goals so far.

The relationship between Costa and Mourinho seemed to plunge new depths last week, with the striker throwing a bib at his boss when an unused sub in the 0-0 draw with Tottenham.

Mourinho has laughed off speculation of a deep rift but reports now suggest the striker is set for a return to La Liga with his old club Atletico Madrid.

And that leads us on to today’s poll. We’re asking if you think Costa will prove a one season wonder in England and whether Chelsea should cash in on his £28m buyout clause and send him packing back to sunny Spain.

Have your say in the poll below and let us know where you think Chelsea have gone wrong this season in the comments section.
